Abstract
This essay situates the Civic Architect at the core of a discipline that has struggled to define itself within a rapidly changing professional landscape. Law and Medicine, Engineering and Construction have all made significant strides toward addressing the complexity and evolving nature of contemporary practice. A reassessment of the public role of the architect is necessary to keep pace with the anticipated changes being unleashed by AI and should be complemented by both, the sanctioning of clearer vocational pathways, and post professional opportunities for specialization. Our inability to address these much-needed changes and the rational for their implementation are also explored.
