Abstract
Water scarcity has become a common challenge in agriculture. Therefore, developing a water management system to reduce water wastage and providing the right amount of water to plants is critical. Moreover, environmental concerns and rising water costs have necessitated the development of innovative and efficient irrigation methods. In response to these challenges, the proposed IoT irrigation system aims to optimize water usage, reduce power consumption, and promote sustainability by leveraging innovative technologies, data analysis, and automation. This work introduces a novel irrigation method that surpasses traditional methods by integrating plants with an intelligent irrigation control system. In the proposed system, sensors can monitor various parameters for outdoor/indoor planting fields, such as moisture, temperature, humidity, solar radiation, and nutrient levels. By continuously monitoring these parameters, the system can detect anomalies and take preventive actions, thereby reducing power consumption and providing the right amount of water for the plants. For this purpose, a fuzzy logic model controls the system’s operation according to the input signals to improve system reliability and accuracy. The proposed system is evaluated by analyzing the five signal inputs separately and combined to show the different responses of the proposed system toward them. The results of the proposed system are validated and compared to those of existing systems and traditional methods. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of combining the different inputs to reduce power consumption up to 54.18 %. Moreover, the model has five reading zones and two irrigation sides to be controlled by a wide range of steps for motors at PMW = 255 instead of a binary control, which most existing methods use. This system provides the exact amount of water for plants, ensuring their health and growth.
