Abstract
COVID-19 continues to impact how teacher preparation programs support teacher candidates (TCs) during their internship experiences. Institutes of Higher Education and K-12 schools have shifted instruction in response to the global pandemic to include both synchronous and asynchronous methods through remote instruction and hybrid platforms. Even when schools provide face-to-face opportunities for K-12 students, internships for TCs remain virtual in an attempt to mitigate any potential for outbreaks. This has resulted in the need for teacher preparation programs to pivot to ensure TCs gain the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate mastery of educator competencies. The innovative use of technology and social media by school-based, university coordinators (UC) can provide equitable access to teacher preparation content, resources, and coaching. Further, the shift in modalities for K-12 students has resulted in an increased need for distinct digital literacy for TCs. This interactive demonstration presentation will highlight multiple technologies that can be used to promote engagement, provide continual connection and feedback, and develop collective resiliency.
